Medications at School
Collierville Schools has adopted new policies regarding medication since forming our own municipality. In order to make the process easier for you, we have outlined some key points below. If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected] or [email protected].
We cannot accept medication unless you provide a written order from the doctor stating that your child must take medication at school and it gives specific directions for administration. This includes prescription and non-prescription (over the counter) medications.
Please remember that you don't have to keep medicine at school. Medication kept at school should be for those with chronic conditions or for use during emergency situations. You are more than welcome to come to the school and give your student medication in the office with you.
Prescription medication
- Student’s name
- Dosage and time of administration (ex. 10mg each day at 1pm)
- Date filled
Example: This inhaler does not meet the requirements.
It must have the pharmacy label attached to it or be in the labeled box
Example: This inhaler meets all requirements.
It comes in the original box, which has the pharmacy label listing all required information and is not expired
Non-prescription (over-the-counter) medicine
- This includes medicine like ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), acetaminophen (Tylenol), cold and sinus medicine, cough drops, Tums, anti-itch cream, etc.
- These medications can only be given with a written doctor’s order for school use.

*How to bring the medicine to school:
- An adult must bring the medicine and the proper paperwork to the front office and sign it in with the nurse.
DO NOT SEND THE MEDICINE WITH YOUR CHILD. Doing so subjects them to the Zero Tolerance policy set forth by the State of TN and Collierville Schools.
- We can keep 10 school days worth of medicine at a time. If this is a daily medication, then you will drop off the medicine every two weeks.
- If the dosage or time of administration changes, you must provide an updated order from the doctor stating the changes.
